Op 10 december 2019 organiseert EMN België zijn jaarlijks policy event over asiel en migratie, waarbij recente nationale en EU ontwikkelingen op het vlak van internationale bescherming, legale migratie en integratie en irreguliere migratie en terugkeer worden besproken.

Op 22 oktober 2019 publiceerde de Vereniging van Vlaamse Steden en Gemeenten vzw (VVSG) de resultaten van de enquête die de VVSG afnam in het voorjaar van 2019. Hieruit blijkt dat vooral de zoektocht naar een woning voor erkende vluchtelingen en subsidiair beschermden zeer problematisch is. De regelgeving stelt dat zij het Lokale Opvanginitiatief (LOI) in principe binnen de twee maanden moeten verlaten. Net als in de VVSG-bevraging van 2017 acht de helft van de respondenten die termijn niet haalbaar. Bij bijna 1 op 5 lukt dit zeer uitzonderlijk, en enkel dankzij de mogelijkheid om het verblijf in het LOI tweemaal met telkens 1 maand te verlengen.

A new report published by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung shows how attitudes across Europe have changed before and after the 2015 migration ‘crisis’ and tries to explain what has driven those changes. Using data from the European Social Survey, the report’s authors find that, overall, perceptions of migration have remained both neutral and stable before and after the ‘crisis’. But there are a few countries that have become significantly more positive about migrants, as well as a few that have become significantly more negative.

Previous OECD and EU work has shown that even native-born children with immigrant parents face persistent disadvantage in the education system, the school-to-work transition, and the labour market. To which degree are these linked with their immigration background, i.e. with the issues faced by their parents? Hoe kan men de integratie in de samenleving van niet-begeleide jongvolwassen vluchtelingen bevorderen? Dit rapport bespreekt ‘cohousing’ en ‘case management’ voor niet-begeleide jongvolwassen vluchtelingen in Antwerpen (CURANT), een sociale beleidsmaatregel waarbij intensieve geïndividualiseerde begeleiding gecombineerd wordt met samenwonen met een lokale huisgenoot, training en therapie met als doel de sociale integratie te ondersteunen. De onderliggende veronderstellingen van de stakeholders worden onderzocht en de kernideeën van de interventie worden in verband gebracht met academische literatuur.

De belangrijkste is ongetwijfeld die van de toegang tot informatie over hun rechten voor migranten. De Liga voor de Mensenrechten heeft daarom een pocket gids gepubliceerd met de belangrijkste praktische informatie voor migranten.
