De gedwongen terugkeer van afgewezen asielzoekers naar Afghanistan is sterk bediscussieerd in Zweden. In dit kader heeft het Zweedse Contactpunt van het EMN de door 17 lidstaten, waaronder België, verstrekte informatie verzameld en geanalyseerd.

This report reviews data relating to migrants' access to information on their rights in 19 reception and detention facilities of 8 EU Member States, including Belgium. It includes recommendations on how to make information provision effective.

Als onafhankelijk Nationaal Rapporteur mensenhandel voor België maakt Myria in zijn rapport Mensenhandel en Mensensmokkel al twintig jaar elk jaar een onafhankelijke evaluatie van het beleid. Dit jaar wijdt Myria de focus van zijn rapport aan de rol van internet en sociale media in mensenhandel en mensensmokkel.

This report points to the need for reform in the European asylum system. There is a need for a more balanced distribution of asylum seekers between the Member States and more uniform decision-making on asylum within the EU. The authors argue that a person seeking asylum should have the same chance of being granted asylum irrespective of the country in which the application is made.

It looks at their strengths and shortcomings, and provides some insight into the interplay between editorial lines, political narratives, journalistic approaches and public discourse.

UNHCR developed a practical tool called "Stateless Persons in Detention: A tool for their identification and enhanced protection". The purpose of the instrument is to facilitate identification o persons in the context of detention who may be stateless and to support the achievement of solutions to their predicament.

The EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) published its "Fundamental Rights Report 2017". FRA states that diverse efforts at both EU and national levels sought to bolster fundamental rights protection in 2016, while some measures threatened to undermine such protection. This publication is based on social media research conducted by a small UNHCR team. Between March and December 2016, they issued weekly monitoring reports which have now been compiled into this synopsis.
