23 (lid) staten hebben informatie verstrekt over hun beleid en praktijk aangaande bepaalde aspecten van de richtlijn 2016/801: manieren waarop internationale studenten kunnen aantonen over voldoende bestaansmiddelen te beschikken, het gebruik van bevroren/geblokkeerde rekeningen bij internationale studenten, en erkende agentschappen voor au-pairs. Deze Ad-Hoc Query werd gelanceerd door het Belgische contactpunt van het EMN.

Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, published today a press release with 2015 data on the acquisition of citizenship in the EU. The main conclusions are that EU Member States granted citizenship to fewer persons in 2015, and Moroccans, Albanians and Turks remain the main recipients.

We weten verrassend weinig over hoe NGO's en advocaten onderzoek doen in het kader van asielaanvragen. Eritrea is de afgelopen tien jaar een van de grootste herkomstlanden van vluchtelingen en asielzoekers ter wereld. Het dominante verhaal dat deze trend verklaart, heeft betrekking op de combinatie van een zeer autoritaire en gemilitariseerde staatsstructuur, een oneindig en misbruikend nationaal dienstprogramma en brutale, wijdverspreide en systematische schendingen van de mensenrechten. Dit dominante verhaal is echter de afgelopen jaren steeds meer in vraag gesteld door degenen die beweren dat migratie uit Eritrea overwegend door economische aspiraties wordt gedreven en dat de Eritreërs eigenlijk een stagnerende economie ontvluchten die de burgers een levensvatbare toekomst ontneemt.
Dit rapport, door Andreas Holm Røsberg en Kjetil Tronvoll, wil de verschillende visies op migratie uit Eritrea verduidelijken.
