In the Chamber of Representatives today, Nicole de Moor presented the main lines of its policy on asylum and migration. Despite the many current challenges, the State Secretary intends to carry out reforms in this field.

Het Commissariaat-generaal voor de Vluchtelingen en de Staatlozen (CGVS) lanceerde de nieuwe website asyluminbelgium.be om asielzoekers in 9 talen en op maat van de asielzoeker, te informeren over de asielprocedure in België.

De nieuwe Staatssecretaris voor Asiel en Migratie, Sammy Mahdi (CD&V) stelde op 18 november 2020 zijn algemene beleidsnota asiel en migratie voor in het Parlement.

Fedasil presenteert in zijn Balans 2019 de belangrijkste gebeurtenissen en cijfers over opvang, vrijwillige terugkeer en hervestiging van het voorbije jaar. Het overzicht toont een toename van het aantal personen dat werd opgevangen en voor wie vorig jaar meer dan 5000 tijdelijke plaatsen werden geopend. 

Omwille van de COVID-19-pandemie werden in maart de persoonlijke gehoren met verzoekers om internationale bescherming bij het CGVS stopgezet. In juni zijn ze heropgestart. Om de veiligheid van personeel en verzoekers te garanderen, is er een video met praktische instructies gemaakt.        

Op 22 oktober 2019 publiceerde de Vereniging van Vlaamse Steden en Gemeenten vzw (VVSG) de resultaten van de enquête die de VVSG afnam in het voorjaar van 2019. Hieruit blijkt dat vooral de zoektocht naar een woning voor erkende vluchtelingen en subsidiair beschermden zeer problematisch is. De regelgeving stelt dat zij het Lokale Opvanginitiatief (LOI) in principe binnen de twee maanden moeten verlaten. Net als in de VVSG-bevraging van 2017 acht de helft van de respondenten die termijn niet haalbaar. Bij bijna 1 op 5 lukt dit zeer uitzonderlijk, en enkel dankzij de mogelijkheid om het verblijf in het LOI tweemaal met telkens 1 maand te verlengen.

On 8 October 2019, Fedasil launched the new information platform www.fedasilinfo.be. The mobile website provides applicants for international protection (asylum seekers) in Belgium with reliable information in 12 languages, 8 of which include an audio version.

Today a new law was published on the fight against false declarations of parenthood. The Law of 19 September 2017 modifies the Civil Code, the Immigration Law, the Judicial Code and the Consular Code, and it includes preventive and repressive measures.

As from today, potential victims of trafficking are issued an annex 15 valid for 45 days during the reflection period, following modification of article 61/2 §2 of the Immigration Act.

Today, two new laws have entered into force. They focus on the procedure to end the residence rights and organized the removal of foreign nationals legally residing in Belgium for reasons of public order or national security.

Foreign nationals might have to pay a fee of maximum 50 euro in certain municipalities when they renew, extend or replace a temporary residence permit at the level of the municipalities. Modifications by the Law of 18 December 2016, published today in the Belgian Official Gazette, made it possible for municipalities to collect this fee.

Today the Council of Ministers decided that the mandatory fee migrants have to pay when applying for certain residence permits will increase.    

Today a new law enters (partly) into force inserting a general residence condition into the Immigration Act. The Immigration Office can now put an end to a residence permit if the person cannot put forward provable integration efforts.

The Passenger Name Record (PNR) law has been adopted in Parliament in December 2016. It was published in the Belgian Official Gazette on 25 January 2017. On the basis of this law, carriers will be obliged to send data on their passengers travelling from, to, or across Belgium to a central database.

Vandaag, 29 augustus 2016, is het Koninklijk Besluit van 3 augustus die de lijst van veilige landen van herkomst vastlegt, gepubliceerd in het Belgisch Staatsblad. Naast de landen die reeds op de lijst stonden afgelopen jaren, wordt ook Georgië nu als veilig land van herkomst beschouwd.
