State Secretary for Asylum and Migration states that single permits which have been improperly issued will be withdrawn

In the House of Representatives today, Nicole de Moor responded to numerous questions regarding possible fraudulent cases of applications for single permits. All involved actors, including the Flemish Region, the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs and the Immigration Office, are now part of a working group to foster information exchange and avoid future abuses.

In the Commission for the Interior, Security, Migration and Administrative Matters today, the State Secretary for Asylum and Migration, Nicole de Moor, explained that the potential fraud led to suspending the issuance of visas at the Belgian consulate in Turkey. “The consulate in Istanbul has never blocked the issuance of all visas. At the beginning of October, we have perceived a risk mainly related to the files related to shortage occupations, but not to the files concerning highly skilled occupations” said Nicole de Moor.

Within the diplomatic post in Rabat, the number of suspicious files has also climbed. As files implying the Brussels-Capital Region and the Walloon Region are also blocked for further investigation, these regions will also take part in the working group that was set up on 9 February. The working group that is made up of Netwerk Vlaanderen, the Immigration Office and the FPS Foreign Affairs, will examine all the files and take appropriate measures.
