This discussion paper stands against the immigration detention of minors, even used as a measure of last resort, and calls for implementing meaningful alternatives to detention during return procedures. It also recommends mandating the collection of data on this matter.

Niet-begeleide minderjarige vreemdelingen (NBMV's) met weinig of geen kans op een verblijfsvergunning kunnen meervoudige problemen hebben, zoals een verslaving en/of mentale gezondheidsproblemen. Deze ad hoc vraag bekijkt hoe EU-lidstaten met deze groep omgaan en hoe ze hun opvang en begeleiding kunnen verbeteren.  

Welke problemen ondervinden migranten bij de toegang tot mentale gezondheidszorg, en hoe pakken de lidstaten die aan? Deze inform brengt het beleid om legaal verblijvende migranten te helpen toegang te krijgen tot de geestelijke gezondheidszorg in kaart.

This new report from the European Migration Network (EMN) provides an overview of the progress made during 2020 in the implementation of the recommendations laid out in the 2017 Communication on the protection of children in migration and is the second edition of a series of reports developed by the EMN.

Hoe zorgen de lidstaten voor de bescherming van kinderen bij migratieprocedures en welke maatregelen zijn er genomen met betrekking tot voogdij, huisvesting, overgang naar volwassenheid en nog veel meer? Dit rapport van het Europees Migratienetwerk (EMN), gepubliceerd op 10 maart 2021, brengt de stand van zaken in 2019 in kaart met betrekking tot de aanbevelingen die zijn vastgelegd in de mededeling van de Europese Commissie over de bescherming van kinderen in migratie van 2017.

24 lidstaten verstrekten informatie over de nationale wetten en praktijken met betrekking tot de detentie van gezinnen met kinderen in migratieprocedures, de mogelijkheid om een ​​van de ouders vast te houden en detentie in het kader van het leeftijdsbeoordelingsproces.

In 2003 nam de Raad Richtlijn 2003/109/EG inzake langdurig ingezetenen aan om de integratie van derdelanders die legaal in de EU verblijven te bevorderen. Veertien jaar na de inwerkingtreding voerde EMN Luxemburg een studie uit over de implementatie van deze richtlijn in 23 EU-lidstaten, waaronder België.

Het verschijnsel van vermiste niet-begeleide migrantenkinderen staat in de EU steeds meer in de belangstelling. Verschillende internationale organisaties en Europese NGO's hebben hun bezorgdheid geuit over het feit dat het verdwijnen van niet-begeleide minderjarigen niet altijd op een effectieve manier wordt aangepakt. Welk beleid en welke procedures zijn er om gevallen van vermiste kinderen te registreren en op te volgen en hoe worden gegevens over vermiste kinderen verzameld in EU-lidstaten, Noorwegen en het VK? De nieuwe Inform van het European Migration Network (EMN), in samenwerking met internationale organisaties, EU-agentschappen en NGO's, biedt een alomvattend beeld van hoe het fenomeen momenteel in de EU wordt behandeld.

The PROTECT – Preventing sexual and gender-based violence against migrants and strengthening support to victims project aims to support the coordination and/or adaptation of support services for sexual and gender-based violence victims and potential victims among refugees, migrants and asylum seekers (children and adults, including LGBTQI people). It is funded by the European Union's Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014-2020).

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) published a report on the protection of unaccompanied and separated children in Belgium. The report describes the current state of affairs and provides policy recommendations to reinforce the protection of this vulnerable category of foreign nationals.

This MPI Europe report explores the various forms of predeparture orientation programs offered by resettlement countries. It focuses on important design questions and identifies a set of features shared by effective programs.

A new report published by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung shows how attitudes across Europe have changed before and after the 2015 migration ‘crisis’ and tries to explain what has driven those changes. Using data from the European Social Survey, the report’s authors find that, overall, perceptions of migration have remained both neutral and stable before and after the ‘crisis’. But there are a few countries that have become significantly more positive about migrants, as well as a few that have become significantly more negative.

Deze EMN studie onderzoekt de huidige maatregelen in de lidstaten en Noorwegen die integratie van derdelanders op de arbeidsmarkt faciliteren. De studie identificeert eveneens goede praktijken van publieke en private actoren op dit domein. 

This final report, realised by the Study and Policy Unit of the Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (Fedasil), describes the reception of vulnerable applicants for international protection with specific needs. It discusses how (field) staff define, identify and respond to vulnerability in practice. The objective is to develop a better understanding of the way in which Fedasil and its reception partners fulfill the requirement of Belgian and European legislation to meet the specific needs of applicants for international protection.
