EMN Zweden heeft een ad hoc vraag gesteld over het afgeleide verblijfsrecht van een gezinslid met de nationaliteit van een derde land op grond van artikel 20 van het Verdrag betreffende de werking van de EU (VWEU). Deze vragen werden gesteld in het kader van de analyse van het Zweedse migratieagentschap van het arrest van het HvJEU in de gevoegde zaken C-451/19 en C-532/19 (XU en QP).

Steeds meer mensen worden door de klimaatverandering getroffen. Bijgevolg is er ook meer behoefte aan begrip van en voorbereiding op klimaatgerelateerde migratie. Het doel van deze inform is dan ook om het bestaande onderzoek aan te vullen en een breder perspectief te bieden op de initiatieven en beleidsmaatregelen die op nationaal niveau genomen worden in EMN-lidstaten en OESO-landen die geen lid zijn van de EU, specifiek met betrekking tot de manier waarop ontheemding en migratie gerelateerd aan rampen, klimaatverandering en milieudegradatie.

Integratie door het verwerven van staatsburgerschap is omwille van het toegenomen aantal nieuwe migranten in de EU in de laatste jaren een belangrijk onderwerp geworden in vele EU lidstaten. De EMN studie toonde aan dat staatsburgerschap door lidstaten wordt gezien als ofwel het hoogtepunt van het integratieproces, ofwel als bevordering van het integratieproces. Niettemin worden onderdanen uit derde landen in de meeste lidstaten niet actief aangemoedigd om het staatsburgerschap aan te vragen.

At the height of the refugee “crisis” in October 2015, over 7,000 asylum seekers crossed the Aegean Sea from Turkey to Greece per day. This created problematic conditions for refugees in reception centers and overwhelmed Greece as a first country of entry to the EU. In this setting, the EU-Turkey Statement was concluded with the aim of managing migration across the Aegean Sea and curbing arrivals to the EU. Whilst the Statement was effective in reducing the number of arrivals, it has been met with a series of human rights concerns.
