From 21 until 23 February 2018, the Belgian State Secretary for Asylum Policy and Migration, Theo Francken, visited Guinea in order to discuss the questions of – inter alia - irregular migration and return.

Today, Frontex published its Risk Analysis for 2018, which concentrates on the scope of Frontex operational activities and, in particular, on irregular migration at the external borders of the EU and Schengen Associated Countries.

This training session (in Dutch) provided by the Flemish Agency for Integration and Civic Integration aims at providing participants with a basic understanding of international family law.

This full day conference will provide an opportunity to exchange information on family reunification schemes, in Ireland and abroad. Drawing on the findings of a recently published European Migration Network study the family reunification policy frameworks operational elsewhere in the EU will be discussed and compared.

As of 2 November 2017, family members of foreign nationals who obtained a long term resident status in another Member State and reside in Belgium will not have to obtain a work permit if the long term residents themselves do not require such a permit.

On the 26th of October 2017 the general policy note on asylum and migration of the State Secretary for Asylum and Migration was published. The policy note provides an overview of the main achievements and priorities in the field of asylum and migration.

Aujourd'hui, le Point de Contact belge du Réseau Européen des Migrations a organisé un évènement à Bruxelles pour explorer la question de l''emploi irrégulier de ressortissants de pays tiers.

In the summer of 2017, more and more transit migrants, who wish to go to the UK, were staying in the Maximilian park in Brussels. The Belgian government did not want this park to become ‘a new Calais’. A number of transit migrants were intercepted and detained. Because a lot of them were presumed Sudanese, a Sudanese delegation was invited to come to Belgium for identification. Left-wing politicians and NGOs stressed that the Sudanese regime’s human rights record is particularly worrying. Campaigns were organised to better inform the transit migrants. On 04.10.2017 these issues were debated in the Belgian Parliament.

The European Commission published a mid-term review of what has been achieved so far in delivering the European Agenda on Migration. It also sets out new initiatives from the Commission to address key areas, and identifies where further efforts are needed in the coming months.

La Commission européenne a lancé une consultation publique afin de rassembler des expériences, des données et des opinions contribuant à l'évaluation du cadre légal existant de l'UE concernant l'entrée et le séjour légal de ressortissants de pays non membres de l'UE au sein des Etats membres. The International Organization for Migration (IOM), published data on recent arrivals in Europe.  Compared with the 273,000 migrants who landed from January through Aug. 27, 2016, about 121,000 arrived during the same period this year. Furthermore, there was no evidence of any migrant dying in the Mediterranean since Aug. 9

À la suite du plan d'action de la Commission pour soutenir l'Italie, présenté le 4 juillet, le fonds fiduciaire de l'UE pour l'Afrique a adopté ce jour un programme doté d'une enveloppe de 46 millions d'euros pour renforcer les capacités des autorités libyennes en matière de gestion intégrée des migrations et des frontières.

La conférence du Point de Contact néerlandais du REM aura lieu le 18 mai 2017 et se concentrera sur le regroupement familial aux Pays-Bas et en Europe.

La conférence du Point de Contact National suédois du REM qui se tiendra à Stockholm le 12 mai 2017, fera un état des lieux et tirera les leçons relatives au regroupement familial en Suède et dans l'UE.

Selon le projet de l'OIM sur les migrants disparus, environ 7495 hommes, femmes et enfants migrants ou réfugiés seraient décédés ou portés disparus à travers les 5 continents en 2016. C'est presque 20 victimes par jour et le nombre pourrait être sous-estimé.

En october 2016, Fedasil a ouvert un nouveau guichet retour à Charleroi, où les immigrants peuvent recevoir des informations et une assistance sur le retour volontaire.

Le Centre d'Education en Milieu Ouvert (CEMO) organise une matinée de réflexion à Bruxelles sur le thème de l'exil au travers du regroupement familial: mythes, procédures et déracinement.
