Elk jaar wordt op 18 december de Internationale Dag van de Migrant gevierd. Deze dag werd op 4 december 2000 door de Algemene Vergadering van de Verenigde Naties aangeduid als reactie op de toenemende migratie over de hele wereld en is bedoeld om de aandacht te vestigen op de mensenrechten van migranten en hun bijdrage aan onze samenlevingen te benadrukken.
