La traite des êtres humains est un crime contre les droits fondamentaux des victimes. Elle peut prendre plusieurs formes, telles que l'exploitation sexuelles, le travail ou les services forcés, l'esclavage et des pratiques liées à la servitude ainsi que le prélèvement d'organes. Cette pratique est interdite par de nombreux instruments européens et internationaux. Pourtant, la demande persistance de services sexuels et de travailleurs dans des emplois manuels peu rémunérés continue de fournir aux trafiquants des occasions d'exploiter les êtres humains.

En tant que rapporteur national indépendant sur la traite des êtres humains pour la Belgique, Myria propose pour la vingtième année, dans son rapport sur la traite et le trafic des êtres humains, une évaluation indépendante de la politique en la matière. Cette année, Myria consacre l'essentiel de son rapport aux victimes mineurs dans la traite et le trafic des êtres humains.
Le rapport se concentre sur un groupe de victimes particulièrement vulnérable: des jeunes filles mineures nigérianes recrutées par des trafiquants dans leur pays d'origine en vue d'exploitation en Europe dans la prostitution.

At the height of the refugee “crisis” in October 2015, over 7,000 asylum seekers crossed the Aegean Sea from Turkey to Greece per day. This created problematic conditions for refugees in reception centers and overwhelmed Greece as a first country of entry to the EU. In this setting, the EU-Turkey Statement was concluded with the aim of managing migration across the Aegean Sea and curbing arrivals to the EU. Whilst the Statement was effective in reducing the number of arrivals, it has been met with a series of human rights concerns.
