Refugee students start a master's degree at the KU Leuven and UCL Louvain as part of the EU Passworld programme

Students, who were originally from Syria and Congo before becoming refugees in Egypt and Uganda, have the opportunity to start this new academic year in Belgian universities thanks to the legal and sustainable migration pathway offered by the university corridors.

The Court of Justice of the EU stresses that the prohibition of abusive practices is a general principle of EU law

In a judgement from 29 July 2024, the Court of Justice of the EU states that a Member State may reject an abusive application for an authorisation to reside on its territory for the purpose of study, even if it has not correctly transposed the directive that provides for that option.

Ad Hoc Vraag over mobiliteit binnen de EU voor internationale studenten (Richtlijn 2016/801)

Deze ad hoc vraag richt zich op de tenuitvoerlegging van artikel 31, lid 2, van Richtlijn 2016/801, waarin de voorwaarden voor de kennisgeving van mobiliteit van studenten tussen twee of meer EU-lidstaten worden uiteengezet. De vraag onderzoekt de procedure voor het melden van mobiliteit, bestaande regelingen bij het ontbreken van een officiële kennisgevingsprocedure en de regels die van toepassing zijn op studenten die vallen onder een EU-programma, een multilateraal programma met mobiliteitsmaatregelen of een overeenkomst tussen twee of meer instellingen voor hoger onderwijs, in tegenstelling tot de regels die van toepassing zijn op studenten die daar niet onder vallen.
