Het Europees Migratienetwerk (EMN) heeft zijn Asiel- en Migratieoverzicht 2024 gepubliceerd, met bijdragen van 30 Europese landen. Het Belgische en EU overzicht werden beiden vandaag gepubliceerd, waarbij het Europese overzicht vandaag, 9 juli 2025, werd gepresenteerd tijdens een online lanceringsevenement met meer dan 260 deelnemers. Voor het eerst is het EU overzicht beschikbaar in een interactief formaat dat dynamische toegang biedt tot belangrijke gegevens en trends.

From 1 July to 31 December 2025, Denmark will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Presidency’s programme emphasises key priorities such as tackling irregular migration, strengthening border control, and fostering cooperation with partner countries. It also aims to enhance legal migration pathways and address the situation of displaced persons.

Op 24 juni 2025 heeft Albanië officieel de status van waarnemend land binnen het Europees Migratienetwerk (EMN) gekregen. Dit werd bevestigd met de ondertekening van een Administratieve Overeenkomst tussen de Europese Commissie en het Albanese Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken. De ondertekening vond plaats tijdens een conferentie die mede werd georganiseerd door EMN Polen.

On 11 June 2025, the European Commission published a report reviewing the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, halfway through its implementation phase, which is expected to be completed by June 2026. The report provides an overview of progress across the main elements of the Common Implementation Plan, while identifying remaining operational and legal challenges. A mid-term review of the Action Plan on Integration and Inclusion 2021–2027 was also released.

The European Commission has approved an additional €3 billion in funding to assist Member States in implementing the Pact on Migration and Asylum and to support the hosting of beneficiaries of temporary protection from Ukraine. This amount is composed of €1.8 billion from the revision of the current Multiannual Financial Framework and a €1.2 billion top-up to the Asylum Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI).
On 11 April 2025, the Belgian Council of Ministers agreed on a package of crisis measures aimed at addressing key issues in the field of asylum and migration. The measures include limitations on reception for asylum seekers, restrictions on subsequent applications for international protection, stricter family reunification conditions, and the termination of integration income for asylum seekers. The four draft bills and the draft royal decree have been submitted to the Council of State for review.
Op 27 maart 2025 heeft EMN België meer dan 130 experts uit de wereld van asiel en migratie in België samengebracht. De Minister van Asiel en Migratie, Anneleen Van Bossuyt, sprak een breed publiek van deskundigen aan, afkomstig uit diverse vakgebieden. De deelnemers verkenden zowel recente ontwikkelingen als de huidige en toekomstige uitdagingen met betrekking tot asiel en migratie in België en de bredere EU-context. De dag werd gekarakteriseerd door de verkenning van verschillende thema's in aparte breakout-sessies, waar deelnemers de kans kregen om informele netwerken te creëren en mogelijke samenwerkingen te verkennen.

Due to the numerous amendments to the Aliens Act, the development of a Migration Code has appeared necessary. In this context, a Commission of Independent Experts was established to provide guidance for the drafting of a new Code. De EMN Stuurgroep heeft gestemd over de onderwerpen die in 2025 geanalyseerd zullen worden in studies en informs. The latest International Migration Outlook 2024 includes a special focus on immigrant entrepreneurship. It highlights that migrants represent a growing share of total entrepreneurs in OECD countries. In 2022, 17% of the self-employed in OECD countries on average were migrants, up from 11% in 2006.

Op 5 november werd Magnus Brunner, de Oostenrijkse kandidaat voor de portefeuille Interne Zaken en Migratie, ondervraagd door de LIBE-Commissie. Brunner gaf aan de uitvoering van bepaalde onderdelen van het Nieuwe Pact voor Migratie en Asiel te willen versnellen en stond open voor het verkennen van nieuwe ideeën ter aanvulling van het pact. Hij kondigde ook aan dat hij een nieuwe Terugkeerrichtlijn zou indienen en legale migratiekanalen zou versterken om de vaardigheden aan te trekken die de arbeidsmarkten van de EU nodig hebben.

Op 28 oktober 2024 ondertekenden de Europese Commissie en het ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken van Noord-Macedonië een overeenkomst over samenwerking met het EMN, waardoor Noord-Macedonië een van de waarnemende landen van het netwerk wordt. Noord-Macedonië zal bijdragen aan de doelstellingen van het EMN door alle bijeenkomsten bij te wonen en bij te dragen aan de studies en rapporten van het netwerk.

Op 17 en 18 oktober 2024 nam EMN België deel aan de Odysseus Netwerk Conferentie 2024 over EU Wetgeving na het Pact. Dit evenement bood EMN België de kans om een diepgaand inzicht te krijgen in enkele van de 485 pagina's van de nieuwe wettelijke instrumenten die door het nieuwe Pact inzake Migratie en Asiel werden geïntroduceerd.
