Tijdens twee 'Lunch & Learn' sessies deze week ontmoette het team van EMN België ongeveer 70 medewerkers van de Dienst Vreemdelingenzaken om hen te informeren over het Europees Migratienetwerk, hen uit te nodigen om actief deel te nemen aan het nationale netwerk en concrete samenwerkingsmogelijkheden te verkennen.

Deze ochtend nam EMN België deel aan een rondetafelgesprek. Het gesprek werd gemodereerd door de Speciale Gezant Asiel en Migratie, Lieven de La Marche, en ook het kabinet van de Staatssecretaris voor Asiel en Migratie, het Belgische Ontwikkelingsagentschap (Enabel) en de coalitie voor internationale solidariteit (11.11.11) namen deel. Belgische actoren bespraken het rapport dat hen voorgelegd werd.

Staatssecretaris voor asiel en migratie Nicole de Moor ondertekende vandaag een terugkeerakkoord met de Senegalese viceminister van buitenlandse zaken Annette Seck. België en Senegal maken daarin afspraken om samen te werken rond terugkeer van mensen in onwettig verblijf en legale migratie.

Vandaag viert het Europees Migratienetwerk (EMN) haar vijftienjarig bestaan. Sinds een decennium en een half levert het netwerk objectieve en betrouwbare informatie over asiel en migratie. Al deze jaren heeft het EMN voldaan aan de asiel- en migratie gerelateerde informatienoden van de Gemeenschapsinstituties en de autoriteiten en instellingen van de lidstaten, waarbij het eveneens de beleidsmakers in deze domeinen ondersteund heeft.

Op 11 en 12 mei 2023, nam EMN België deel aan de Zweedse EMN Voorzitterschapsconferentie. Veel verschillende actoren waren aanwezig: professoren, onderzoekers, beleidsmakers, analisten, ontwikkelingssamenwerkingsactoren, nationale overheidsambtenaren – zowel van EU-landen als daarbuiten – en EU-ambtenaren, vertegenwoordigers van internationale organisaties en NGO’s.

Vandaag hebben de Commissie ‘Interne markt’ en de Commissie ‘burgerlijke vrijheden, justitie en binnenlandse zaken’ een ontwerponderhandelingsmandaat aangenomen met betrekking tot de allereerste regelgeving omtrent Artificiële Intelligente (AI). Europarlementariërs hebben de lijst substantieel aangepast met een verbod op indringend en discriminerend gebruik van AI-systemen. Ze breidden ook de classificatie van hoog risico gebieden uit.

The first package of reforms contains several measures. Nicole De Moor said in a statement that, according to the texts to be discussed in Parliament, reception places will be allocated to those in an ongoing asylum procedure, cooperation on return will be enshrined in law and abuses in family reunification will be combated. Finally, a solution will be offered to vulnerable persons in specific situations such as statelessness.

On 15 and 16 November 2022, EMN Belgium welcomed over 20 enthusiastic young people from a variety of backgrounds at its EMN Migration Youth Event.
