The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the flow of migrants who planned to enter the EU and OECD countries as workers in essential sectors (e.g. health- and care- workers, hospital auxiliary staff, agricultural workers) as well as those who were residing on a temporary or renewable basis for the purpose of work in these sectors. Omwille van de COVID-19-pandemie werden in maart de persoonlijke gehoren met verzoekers om internationale bescherming bij het CGVS stopgezet. In juni zijn ze heropgestart. Om de veiligheid van personeel en verzoekers te garanderen, is er een video met praktische instructies gemaakt.

Op 25 juni 2020 lanceert het Europees Ondersteuningsbureau voor Asielzaken (EASO) zijn jaarlijks rapport 2020. Omwille van de COVID-19 situatie, houdt EASO dit jaar een online event om de bevindingen in het rapport, evenals de asieltendensen in de EU te presenteren en te bespreken.
