Asylum systems in 2016 - Overview of developments from selected European Countries (ECRE)

This briefing provides a short overview of major developments relating to asylum procedures, reception conditions, detention of asylum seekers and content of international protection accros the countries covered by the Asylum Information Database (AIDA).

 

Information is drawn from the 2016 Update of the AIDA Country Reports for Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Germany, Spain, France, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Serbia.

For each country update there is a one to two-page fact sheets presenting a snapshot of major trends in 2016. There is also a link towards the full report for each country on the AIDA website.

The 2016 update of the AIDA country reports has also made available statistical information on the application of the Dublin Regulation in 12 European countries (Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, Cyprus (full information) and Spain, Austria, Croatia and Italy (partial information). This statistical update tracks the application of the Dublin Regulation in 12 EU countries concerned.

The Asylum Information Database (AIDA) is a database managed by the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), and includes 17 European Union (EU) Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Germany, Spain, France, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, United Kingdom) and 3 non-EU countries (Switzerland,  Serbia, Turkey). The annual update cycle of the country reports was concluded last week for 19 countries. The update of the country report on Turkey is pending.
