This final report, realised by the Study and Policy Unit of the Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (Fedasil), describes the reception of vulnerable applicants for international protection with specific needs. It discusses how (field) staff define, identify and respond to vulnerability in practice. The objective is to develop a better understanding of the way in which Fedasil and its reception partners fulfill the requirement of Belgian and European legislation to meet the specific needs of applicants for international protection.

Ce rapport regarde la politique belge liée au retour, à la détention et à l’éloignement des étrangers d’un œil critique et présente des chiffres récents. Dans la lignée de son dernier rapport migration, il se penche plus particulièrement sur les questions liées au droit de vivre en famille des personnes en détention. Myria y formule des recommandations visant à améliorer le respect des droits fondamentaux de ces personnes.

The strategic partnership of the European Council for Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) published “The Way Forward – A reflection paper on the new proposals for EU funds on Asylum, Migration and Integration 2021-2027”. This reflection paper addresses the proposals of most relevance to beneficiaries of the current Asylum Migration & Integration Fund (AMIF) 2014-20, and those that are proposed to be implemented by Member States via ‘shared management’ arrangements (National Programmes). It concentrates mainly on the proposed Asylum & Migration Fund (AMF) and European Social Fund+ (ESF+).

This research, commissioned for the eighteenth plenary meeting of the Transatlantic Council of Migration, an initiative of the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), examines the entanglement of immigration with broader concerns about the economic, social and cultural effects of globalization, as well as the public’s growing lack of confidence in government to manage issues such as immigration.

The European Commission has published the new "Feasibility study on sponsorship schemes as a possible pathway to safe channels for admission to the EU". Finalised in October 2018, its outcomes confirm that private sponsorship schemes can efficiently contribute to meeting the goal of promoting safe and legal channels of admission to the EU of those in need of international protection.

The Commission will therefore consider ways in which Member States could be best supported in establishing such schemes.

En tant que rapporteur national indépendant sur la traite des êtres humains pour la Belgique, Myria propose pour la vingtième année, dans son rapport sur la traite et le trafic des êtres humains, une évaluation indépendante de la politique en la matière. Cette année, Myria consacre l'essentiel de son rapport aux victimes mineurs dans la traite et le trafic des êtres humains.

Le rapport se concentre sur un groupe de victimes particulièrement vulnérable: des jeunes filles mineures nigérianes recrutées par des trafiquants dans leur pays d'origine en vue d'exploitation en Europe dans la prostitution. 

Dans ce Myriatics Myria note entre autres : une proportion croissante des immigrations en provenance des nouveaux États membres de l’UE, une diminution proportionnelle des immigrations issues des pays de l’UE-15, une diminution importante et récente des immigrations marocaines et turques, et enfin une hausse des immigrations en provenance de l’Asie occidentale, en particulier depuis des pays en guerre.

This new policy brief offers a critical analysis of the reignited trend of externalised EU migration policies that appear to be moving towards a model of offshore processing, as used by Australia. The GRETA report, covering the period from 1 January until 31 December 2018, stresses that labour exploitation is on the rise across Europe. Also in Belgium, labour exploitation appears as a predominant form of trafficking.

Ce 3ème monitoring socio-économique prend en compte les données de 2013 et 2014, il élargit le groupe d'âge analysé et il inclut de nouvelles variables telles que le niveau d'éducation ainsi que des thèmes précis tels que le secteur public pour mieux comprendre la participation sur le marché du travail selon l'origine.

Over a period of two years, a UNICEF Belgium team collected the testimonies of 170 migrant and refugee children from 36 nationalities in reception centres and schools. The children talk about their experiences in their country of origin and their new environment, the disaster they fled for, the trials they endured on the way, their joy and sorrow. With this report UNICEF wants to build a bridge between the words of these young people, who are very keen on participation, and policy makers who are often far removed from their reality.
