The government agrees on additional budget for the reception of asylum seekers and the management of migration

The federal government has reached an agreement today on the 2024 budget. While 1.2 billion euros will improve the budget balance, 500 million euros will cover additional needs, including in the asylum and migration field.

After more than 30 hours of negotiations, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, the deputy prime ministers and the Secretary of State for the Budget Alexia Bertrand agreed on a budgetary effort of 1.2 billion euros. This additional effort will make it possible to bring the budget deficit below 3% of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2024.

They also agreed on an additional budget of 500 million euros to cover additional needs. Among them, in addition to the increase in the minimum wage, the increase in resources for the reception of asylum seekers and the management of migration, additional budgets to fight against drugs and security in general have been planned.
