Myriadoc 9: A new paradigm for the European asylum model?

In this report (which is available in Dutch and French) Myria analyses the broader migration context. It argues against pushbacks and for more legal pathways for people in need of protection.

The European asylum model implies a certain form of solidarity between Member States when it comes to taking responsibility for handling applications for international protection. Myria argues that this solidarity divides the European Union.

At the same time there is a paradigm shift going on. According to Myria, over the last years multiple European policy measures focus on limiting the irregular entry of asylum seekers in the EU, and on externalising responsibility to third-countries.

That's why Myria emphasises the importance of fundamental rights when it comes to the external dimension of the European asylum policy.
