Council of Ministers approves the creation of a registration centre for asylum seekers

Today, the restricted Council of Ministers has approved the proposal of the State Secretary for Asylum Policy and Migration to create a single registration centre for asylum seekers in Neder-Over-Heembeek.

The proposal of the State Secretary for Asylum Policy and Migration - which was approved today - plans the creation of a single registration centre for asylum seekers in Neder-Over-Heembeek.

The registration, medical examination and identification of the asylum seekers will be organized in this centre, as well as a screening by the security services and the police. Asylum seekers will also reside in this centre until they are invited to lodge their asylum application. Following the lodging of their application, they will be transferred to a place in the regular reception network.

The opening of the centre is planned for January 2019. 750 places are foreseen.

The closure of the reception centre "Klein Kasteeltje/Petit Chateau" in Brussels was also announced.
