Ministers of Justice and Home Affairs addressed the following issues:

• Protection of children in migration: Ministers exchanged on integrated child protection systems, in consultation with representatives of the FRA, UNICEF and UNHCR. Ministers adopted Council conclusions (10085/17) on this issue, inviting Member States to take or implement actions to protect children at all stages of migration building inter alia on the recommendations on the protection of children in migration.
• Reform of the Common European Asylum System: Ministers discussed the progress achieved based on the progress report dated from 2 June and examined the way forward.
• European travel information and authorisation system: Ministers agreed the Council's position for negotiations with the European Parliament
• Schengen Information System: Ministers discussed legislative proposals (on return, border checks and police cooperation) to improve the SIS. They broadly agreed on the possibility to include preventive alerts for children at risk of abduction, as well as alerts on persons or objects for inquiry checks.
• Return policy: Ministers underlined the importance of further reinforcing the EU return policy and making it more efficient. They highlighted the need to improve cooperation with third countries in this field. The Council adopted conclusions (9801/17) on enhancing return and readmission of illegally staying third country nationals.
• Information Systems Interoperability: The Council adopted conclusions (9448/17) on improving information exchange and ensuring interoperability of EU information systems. The Commission is invited to work on the creation of a European search portal and to explore the future implementation of a shared biometric matching service for all types of biometric data as well as the future establishment of a common identity repository.
• Irregular migration security checks: The Council adopted conclusions (9454/17) recommending security checks in the case of irregular migration.
