Launch of the Migration Data Portal

At the beginning of December 2017, IOM’s Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC), jointly with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and with the guidance of GMDAC’s Advisory Board, developed the first global Migration Data Portal. The Portal aims to serve as a unique access point to timely and comprehensive migration statistics.

The key objectives of the portal are:

  • Becoming a point of first entry for all relevant stakeholders in search of reliable, intelligible information and data about migration globally.
  • Providing context and analysis of key migration data to help users navigate the often scattered and complicated nature of migration data.
  • Becoming a widely-used platform for the migration community of public sector representatives, academics, experts, NGOs and journalists to access, share, discuss, contribute and improve migration data.
  • By making the evidence about migration issues accessible and easy to understand, the Portal aims to contribute to a more informed public debate.

The overall purpose of the Portal is to draw together key data and recent studies on migration globally, organized by theme, with a strong use of visualizations and interactive elements throughout.

The Migration Data Portal will scale up in coming months, making more data available at the regional and national levels. Visit the Migration Data Portal at: www.migrationdataportal.org
