Nigeria sex trafficking of women (EASO)

This new EASO country of origin information (COI) report focuses on the modus operandi of the trafficking of Nigerian women to Europe for the purpose of prostitution and the situation of victims returning to Nigeria.

This report published by the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) initially maps human trafficking in Nigeria, including some push and pull factors, the size and scope of the phenomenon, - the regions of recruitment for human trafficking to Europe, the profiles of trafficked women, the level of general and women's awareness of the phenomenon and the role of the State fighting/preventing trafficking.

The report then looks into the modus operandi of sex trafficking in Nigeria and more particularly the structure and size of Nigerian trafficking networks, and the role of "madams" within these networks, the means of recruitment for sex trafficking, the debt system, the role of women's relatives and the use of juju in sex trafficking

The report continues with describing the journey of trafficked women to Europe and finally presents information about the reception of victims of human trafficking repatriated to Nigeria (assistance, protection and reintegration, attitudes, expectations, relocation, etc.).
