Background (Source: ICMPD)

Mobility Partnerships (MPs) represent the most advanced framework of cooperation and partnership between the EU, EU Member States and third countries in the field of migration and mobility. They are a key policy instrument of the EU Global Approach to Migration and Mobility. MPs enable the EU and its partner countries to address all migration and mobility issues of mutual concern in a targeted, specific and concrete way, creating tangible benefits for citizens and other stakeholders on both sides.

So far, four MPs have been concluded by the EU with the following partner countries: Moldova and Cape Verde (2008), Georgia (2009), and Armenia (2011) and a MP is currently in preparation with Azerbaijan. Moreover, in the framework of the dialogues on migration, mobility and security with the Southern Mediterranean countries, the EU is considering the establishment of MPs with Tunisia and Morocco. The success and positive achievements of the MPs are determined mainly by the full commitment of all parties involved and initiatives/projects funded and implemented under each MP.

Building on this momentum, the European Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) “Migration EU Expertise” (MIEUX) Programme will organise a one-day conference "Mobility Partnerships: Past, Present and Future".
