The department "Alternatives To Detention" (ATD) in the Immigration Office aims to develop and implement alternative solutions to detention, mainly by concentrating on creating Individual Case Management (ICAM) coaching programs. The purpose of the ICAM coaching is to provide personalised guidance to irregularly staying persons to steer them towards a sustainable solution.

Until now, individuals and families in irregular stay received an invitation to meet with a coach in their local region. But since 4 October 2023, it will be possible for them to meet a coach without an appointment in three walk-in counters. An ICAM coach will be present every Wednesday from 9 until 12 at the walk-in counters in Brussels, Antwerp and Liège. He/She will examine the situation of the person concerned and the prospects for a sustainable future.
