Myria has published the second thematic section of its 2023 annual report. This section entitled "Humanitarian and medical regularisation" reports that 2.038 persons were regularized on humanitarian grounds in Belgium in 2022 (10% less than in 2021) and 248 persons were authorised to reside in Belgium on medical grounds in 2022 (against 1,330 people whose application was refused).

Today, 1 July 2013, the "Law Program" from 28 June 2013 involving a number of changes for foreigners living in Belgium, enters into force. The political agreement on the Law was reached in the framework of discussions on the budget.

The preliminary executive summary of the report concludes that it is necessary to push forward discussions in order to move towards legislation in the area in the near future.

Today, the International Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, adopted a draft law amending provisions relating to the regularization for medical reasons, in order to avoid abuse of this procedure and in particular to discourage manifestly unfounded claims.
