Conference on Piloting skills mobility: Lessons learned from the MATCH project and the way forward

Are you interested in labour mobility schemes between Africa and Europe? For the last three years, the MATCH project has been piloting circular migration schemes between two African countries (Senegal and Nigeria) and four European countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Italy).

Ad Hoc Query on unaccompanied minors with coexisting problems and without residence permit

Unaccompanied minors who have little or no perspective of receiving a residence permit within EU Member States, may have co-existing problems such as mental health issues or substance addiction. This ad hoc query examines how EU Member States deal with this specific group and how they could improve the reception and supervision of these young persons.

Ad Hoc Query on the recognition of diploma's from third countries

How do other EU Member States, and Georgia, recognise diplomas obtained in third countries? This ad hoc query, that Belgium launched in July 2022, focused on the (i) institutional landscape for diploma recognition throughout Europe, (ii) the role of Public Employment Services in this recognition and (iii) best practices that the responding States wanted to share regarding their diploma recognition practices, specifically in the context of the Ukrainian crisis. 20 countries answered the query.

EMN in cooperation with the OECD published a new inform ‘Skills Mobility Partnerships: Exploring Innovative Approaches to Labour Migration’. This inform highlights experiences by EU Member States, non-EU countries and international organisations with regards to the introduction of Skills Mobility Partnerships (SMPs), a new concept that promotes a sustainable approach to skilled migration and mobility, with the aim to build skills for the benefit of both countries of origin and destination.

Digitalisation of asylum procedures: risks and benefits (ECRE)

Attracting and protecting the rights of seasonal workers (EMN)

For many EU countries, seasonal workers from third countries are crucial to fill temporary, cyclical labour market needs. Since the adoption of the Seasonal Workers Directive in 2016, this specific category of workers can benefit from EU-harmonised admission policies and rights concerning their entry and stay. This study provides a comparative overview of recent trends in seasonal workers coming to the EU and Belgium, and the strategies and practices related to seasonal workers from third countries.

Maintaining labour migration in essential sectors in time of pandemic (EMN OECD Inform)

The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the flow of migrants who planned to enter the EU and OECD countries as workers in essential sectors (e.g. health- and care- workers, hospital auxiliary staff, agricultural workers) as well as those who were residing on a temporary or renewable basis for the purpose of work in these sectors. Online Launch of the EASO Asylum Report 2020

Video asylum interviews in COVID times
