The Klarafestival 2026 in Brussels brings together audiences, musicians, and participants from diverse backgrounds around the theme “Where is Home?”. The festival combines classical music concerts with additional activities such as conferences and discussions. It also engages in social initiatives, giving young talents a platform and reaching communities that do not usually experience live classical music. In 2026, particular attention is given to refugees, highlighting the importance of having a safe home and a sense of belonging.

This high-level conference will provide panel discussions among EU Member States’ ministries, the European Commission, EU agencies, national stakeholders, international organisations, and third-country officials to exchange views on tackling irregular migration, border management, countering migrant smuggling, and addressing root causes of migration.

From Brussels to Virton and beyond, a wide range of activities are being organised across Belgium in the lead-up to World Refugee Day on 20 June 2025. Cultural events, open days, artistic performances and community gatherings will shine a light on the talents, stories and resilience of people forced to flee.

The EU launched a call for proposals under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund to prevent irregular migration through awareness-raising and information campaigns on the risks of irregular migration in selected third countries and within Europe. The available call budget is EUR 10 000 000.

The German Contact Point to the European Migration Network (EMN), in cooperation with the BAMF, organises a conference on "Resettlement, Humanitarian Admission, and Complementary Pathways to Refugee Protection". Current national and European developments and challenges in the field will be discussed with a variety of national and international guests.

As more than a year has passed since activating the Temporary Protection Directive, the conference focuses on the experiences of the Member States and host societies regarding the TPD as well as on long-term scenarios and ways forward. 

On 25 June 2020, the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) will launch the 2020 edition of its annual flagship EASO Asylum Report. Due to the COVID-19 situation, this year EASO will be holding an online event to present and discuss the findings of the report, as well as developing asylum trends in the EU. 

On 10 December 2019, EMN Belgium organises its annual asylum and migration policy event in which recent national and EU developments in the field of international protection, legal migration and integration and irregular migration and return will be discussed.

On 18 January a conference will take place in Brussels organised by the federal Migration Centre Myria, the Académie Royale des Sciences et des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, the Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België voor Wetenschappen en Kunsten and newspaper Le Soir. The focus will be on international protection and economic migration.

On the 31st of May and 1st of June, the Bulgarian Contact Point of the EMN - in the framework of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council - organizes the EMN Annual Conference. The conference will be dedicated to the following topic: challenges and success factors in managing migration flows.

This joint seminar organized by the Estonian Contact Point of the EMN, UNHCR and IOM focuses on the current state, challenges and future directions of resettlement in Estonia and elsewhere.

Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen organizes an evening event on the subject of international protection. The programme includes a dance performance, a debate, a movie screening and a concert.

This full day conference addresses current responses to the ongoing refugee crisis, providing an opportunity to highlight best practices and challenges.

Does the refugees crisis also means a crisis of the EU ? This question will be addressed during the colloquium organized by the "Laboratoire de Droit international et Européen" and the "Centre d'excellence J. MONNET de l'UNS" in partnership with the "Centre d'excellence J. MONNET de l'UGA".

The Institute for European Studies (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) organizes a Policy Forum on the role of the EU's home affairs agencies in the refugee crisis.

On 20 January, the Belgian Association for foreigners’ rights organizes a training on the topic “What protection for seriously ill persons following M’Bodj and Abdida case-law?”.

This year, the EMN Conference aims to support the policymaking process on a number of key areas of irregular migration policy, namely readmission, return, reintegration and cooperation with countries of transit and origin, as well as re-entry bans and (alternatives to) detention.

The Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) together with Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), invite you to join a discussion on how the European Union can ensure the rights of undocumented migrant children and their families.

PICUM's Annual International Workshop, that will take place on 28 June 2013 in the International Auditorium in Brussels, will explore the housing situation of undocumented migrants.

The course will look at the international protection framework for refugees from an international law and European perspective.

This timely International Symposium will explore the ongoing challenges that Europe is facing to increase the practical cooperation between member states, especially in relation to the collection of measurable data on asylum seekers.

The 2012 ELENA Advanced Course on the Right of Refugees will take place in Madrid, Spain from 30 November to 2 December. The course is aimed at legal practitioners, decision makers and staff of national asylum authorities.

This conference takes place within the framework of the project "Awareness raising of the risks associated with irregular migration and support to vocational reintegration of migrants in the Republic of Congo" (2011-2012).

What drives so many migrants to risk their lives to cross the Mediterranean sea? How does Europe react? These questions will be addressed with representatives from CIRé, CNCD and Boats4People during a debate following the play on 25 September 2012.

The event will bring together practitioners in refugee resettlement, from both governments and NGOs, engage new actors and build toward a future EU Resettlement Practitioners’ Network.
