The European Asylum Support Office is now fully operational

The new EASO Office began some of its activities in November 2010, and is since 19 June 2011 fully operational

On 19 June, the inaugural ceremony of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) has taken place in Valetta, Malta. Amongst other officials, European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecila Malmström attended the event. The EASO, a new European Agency was established with the aim of enhancing practical cooperation on asylum matters, and helping Member States fulfil their European and international obligations to give protection to people in need. The agency began already in November 2010 some of its activities and is now fully operational.
