EMN Sweden discusses challenges facing reception systems for asylum seekers

This Conference looked into the strengths and weaknesses of reception system for asylum seekers in terms of quality, efficiency and flexibility. Speakers from Belgium, France and the UK provided a comparative perspective.

Today 7 May 2013, the Swedish Contact Point of the EMN organized a conference to discuss the challenges faced by reception systems adapting to fluctuating numbers of asylum seekers.

Participants discussed important issues, including the reception of minors of age, the role and experiences of local authorities, the perspectives of NGOs. A representative from Fedasil presented the strengths and weaknesses of the Belgian reception system and lessons learnt from dealing with a reception crisis.

The ongoing EMN study on "The organization of reception facilities in the EU Member States: background, expected contents and objectives" was also presented.
