FAIRWORK Belgium's 2022 annual report pays particular attention to the complex system of single permits.

The non-governmental organisation puts emphasis on the vulnerability of migrant workers who are not informed about the procedure and application submitted by the employer. Migrant workers are in a dependent position vis-à-vis their employer which can lead to abuse. FAIRWORK Belgium suggests that the worker should receive a copy of all the documents submitted and have access to the online platform to follow the progress of his file.

This is in line with a recommendation from Myria requesting greater transparency in the single permit application process. Please read this recommendation in French or in Dutch (pp. 25-26).
