Towards a new framework for the Belgian Return Policy (Federal Migration Centre)

The Belgian Federal Migration Centre published today a report on the Belgian return policy after the transposition of the EU-Return Directive.

Under influence of the transposition of the Return Directive, important policy changes were made in the field of return of migrants in Belgium. In the report ‘Towards a new framework for the Belgian Return Policy’, available in French and Dutch, the Federal Migration Centre provides an analysis of the main changes and their impact in terms of fundamental rights of foreigners.

The report elaborates on the mechanisms used to encourage voluntary return, the concept of the entry ban, the different steps of the principal of phased removal, detention as an ultimate measure and alternatives to detention.
