The publication commissionned by the DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, offers a descriptive and analytical assessment of the use of social assistance by migrants in 19 European Member States.

This study is prepared by the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) and the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and commissioned by the EU Programme for Employment and Social Solidarity -PROCESS.

It offers an assessment on social assistance and access to social services allocated to migrants.

It investigates the mutual interactions between the migration policies and the social assistance policies.

It offers a comparative analysis between natives and immigrants' use of social welfare in the 19 EU countries studied.

It also studies the position of migrant workers in time of economical crisis.

It finally considers the particular situation of irregular migrants on the job market as well as their access to social welfare.
