First Report on Socio-Economic Monitoring

The first Report on "Socio-Economic Monitoring" was presented on the 5th of September 2013 by the Centre for Equal Opportunities and Opposition to Racism and the Federal Public Service on Employment, Labour and Social Dialogue.

In 2006 the Centre for Equal Opportunities and Opposition to Racism and the Federal Public Service on Employment, Labour and Social Dialogue started to develop a new durable measuring instrument called “Socio-Economic Monitoring”. It was done in collaboration with the Crossroads Bank for Social Security, the population registers, the Ministers of Work and different experts. Today – seven years later - the first report has been presented, which is important for several reasons.

The report on Socio-Economic Monitoring maps the position of employees on the labour market according to their Belgian, European or non-European origin. The study confirms – without any doubt – the hypothesis that this position depends on their nationality or country of origin.

The report is not based on a poll or sample, but is based on exhaustive data from the population registers and the Crossroads Bank for Social Security.

For the first time, the Socio-Economic Monitoring does not only take into account the nationality of the employees and their parents, but also with their origin. So far, Belgian specialists and politicians only had impartial data on the socio-economic position of migrants from the second and third generation.
