PAG-ASA raises awareness of human trafficking through a week of activities in Brussels

On the occasion of the European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings on 18 October, PAG-ASA is organising the fifth edition of its Human Trafficking Awareness Week in Brussels. From 12 to 18 October, a series of activities will raise awareness of the different forms of human trafficking, its impact on victims and the Belgian protection framework. The programme includes a public awareness installation, a documentary screening, professional training sessions and a photographic exhibition.

Under the slogan “Human Trafficking Hides Everywhere. Help us reveal it!”, three large cubes displaying six silhouettes and stories of victims are being installed at Place Poelaert, in Brussels. The stories illustrate exploitation in different Brussels municipalities and across several sectors, including construction, prostitution and massage parlours, domestic cleaning, delivery services and hospitality. The installation aims to draw attention to forms of exploitation that can remain hidden in everyday life.

The programme also includes a screening of "The Pickers", an investigative documentary about migrant workers harvesting fruit and vegetables in several European countries, followed by a discussion with experts. PAG-ASA is offering introductory training sessions in French and Dutch for frontline professionals who may encounter potential victims of human trafficking. In addition, the Photo-Voice exhibition at Forest municipal hall presents photographs and personal testimonies by people supported by PAG-ASA, offering insight into their experiences and resilience. The activities are free of charge, although registration is required for events with limited places.
