Poster of 27 February European March for Refugees' Rights

On 27 February 2016 European citizens came together in cities across the continent to stand up for human rights in Europe, especially requesting that European authorities and governments take action now to open secure safe passage routes for all those who seek protection.

The slogan of the initiative - #‎safepassage‬ now - means:

  • legal and safe routes: no more deaths at our borders
  • protection for refugees on their travel through Europe
  • keeping internal borders open within Schengen
  • high standards of reception and asylum in all European countries, no longer diminishing the rights of asylum seekers and refugees, allowing refugees to keep their belongings, allowing them to be reunited with their families immediately and providing stability as far as their right of residence is concerned.

In Belgium, it is a citizen initiative involving the Plateforme citoyenne de soutien aux réfugiés, Bredene met een hart voor vluchtelingen, Solidarity4all, Community support group for refugees, Réseau Inter-Collectif Refugees. With the support of CIRE, Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen, Médecins Sans Frontières, Médecins Du Monde, Hart boven hard, Tout Autre chose, Amnesty International, Agir pour la Paix, MRAX, Amitiés sans frontières, réseau ADES, Greenpeace, Ligue des droits de l’homme, Change Partnership, Colectivo García Lorca, CNCD-11.11.11, Clowns Without Borders, Centre d’action laique, WeCanHelp, MOC, CSC and FGTB.
