Migration Youth Event - 15 and 16 November 2022

Are you aspiring to be the next Ursula Von der Leyen? Are you eager to learn more about asylum and migration? Are you comfortable expressing yourself in English? The European Migration Network Belgium is happy to announce its Migration Youth Event, bringing together young people from all over Europe. Enriching discussions alternate with a visit to a reception centre, interactive learning tools are followed by stepping in the shoes of a refugee and fun is mixed with learning. After two days in the heart of decision-making ‘Brussels’, you return home with a backpack filled with new impressions, new knowledge and new connections!

The EU has designated 2022 the ‘European Year of Youth’ to highlight the importance of young people’s futures by including young people and their priorities in policymaking and organising youth-focused activities across the EU. Migration and inclusion are, in general, mentioned by young people as key concerns. In addition, young people are the most mobile social group as international migration creates opportunities to improve their lives and those of their families.

In this context, the European Migration Network is organising a hybrid event bringing together young people from all over Europe to reflect on how youth could and should be more effectively engaged in understanding and shaping migration policies and narratives. The event will be organised with decentralised in-person national events in EMN Member States and observers, joined up at one EU-level online event.

EMN Belgium is expanding it into a two-day event bringing together 20-25 young people to learn more about asylum and migration in Belgium and in the European Union. Participants will be submerged in a program focusing on both the theory and the practice of asylum and migration policy through informal and peer-to-peer learning, as well as educational visits, discussion and debate, learning tools and engaging with other youth from all over Europe.
