Human trafficking network dismantled in the Brussels Northern Quarter

As part of an investigation into acts of trafficking in human beings, 30 brothels in the northern district of Brussels have been placed under judicial seal. 25 people were subject to judicial arrest and 23 others were administratively deprived of their liberty.

Today, the Federal Judicial Police of Brussels, supported by several units from other judicial districts and the police of the Brussels-North zone, searched 56 addresses as part of an investigation into acts of trafficking in human beings (sexual exploitation).

The investigation targets the Nigerian and Ghanaian prostitution underworld. Three young men are suspected of having placed young Nigerian women in the windows of brothels in Brussels-North. Generally transiting through France or Italy, these young women then find themselves in a precarious and irregular situation in Belgium.

In addition to prostitution "bars" in the Brussels-North zone, police also searched the homes of those suspected of being responsible for this human trafficking network in Antwerp, Liège and East Flanders.
