First Flemish Migration and Integration Monitor published

On 26 November 2013 the first edition of the Flemish Migration and Integration Monitor has been presented. The report joins and interprets administrative and statistical data on migratory and integration processes in Flanders.

During the Mid-term Conference 'Civic integration and integration. Societal developments and challenges' of 26 November 2013, the first edition of the biennial Flemish Migration and Integration Monitor has been presented.

The report is a joint project of the Research Institute for Labour and Society (HIVA), the Study Office of the Flemish Government (SVR) and the Agency for Home Affairs (ABB), realized in the framework of the Support Centre for Civic Integration (SIenI).

It joins existing data about migration and diversity, within a Belgian and European frame, but for the first time on Flemish level. Also, for the first time, persons of foreign origin (such as second generation immigrants) are mapped. The report aims to contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of Flemish integration policy, based on scientific findings.

The first, freshly launched edition of the Flemish Migration and Integration Monitor is attached above and can be read here.

During the Mid-term Conference, other research (only in Dutch) was presented also:

  • Enterpreneurship of Bulgarian, Polish and Romanian immigrants in Flanders;
  • The Enchantment of a heimat: Dynamics of return migration of second generation Belgian-Turkish youth;
  • The NT2-route of civic integrators mapped;
  • The NT2-offer in Flanders: fit for civic integrators?

At last, P. Van Avermaert, shortly relfected on the connection between language-acquisition and integration and the 'marriage contact' between host societies and migrants.
