The Platform on Statelessness of the European Migration Network, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the European Network on Statelessness organized the conference "Addressing Statelessness in the European Union, One year on from the adoption of European Council Conclusions".

When and where?

The conference took place on Wednesday, 18 January 2017 (8.30 - 1pm), at the Residence Palace (Rue de la Loi 155, Brussels). The programme is available here.

About the event

The  European Migration Network (EMN) has been designated by the European Council Conclusions on Statelessness of 3 and 4 December 2015 as the platform for the exchange of information on statelessness among EU Member States. Recently, the EMN Inform "Statelessness in the EU" was published, based on responses received from Member States on their current practice.

One year after the Conclusions, the conference took stock on collective efforts to address statelessness in the EU and identified what further action is required. The Conference focused on two themes: the identification and protection of stateless persons, and preventing childhood statelessness.
