All citizens (EU nationals and non-EU nationals) and organizations can contribute to this public consultation. The aim is to collect views and opinions to underpin the on-going impact assessment of the Smart Borders Package.

The Smart Borders Package was proposed by the European Commission in February 2013 with the aim to improve the management of the external borders of the Schengen Area, to help combat irregular migration and to provide information on persons who overstay beyond the authorized period of stay. The Package consists of three proposals:

• a Regulation establishing an EU entry exit system (EES)
• a Regulation establishing the Registered Traveller Programme (RTP)
• a Regulation amending the Schengen Borders Code
