Call for Papers: Children Migrants and 3rd Culture Kids Roots and Routes

Researchers and practicioners are invited to submit papers in preparation for an international conference aimed at understanding the impact of very different forms of migrations (i.e. forced migrations, economic migrations, return migrations) on children, including long-term consequences.

Papers and presentations are to be submitted in preparation for an international conference on “Children Migrants & Third Culture Kids. Roots and Routes” that will be held in Krakow from 7 to 9 June 2013.

Themes

Papers and presentations might address (but need not be limited to) the following themes:

  • Adaptation problems and potential ways of solving them
  • Children in the context of religious education: theory & practice
  • Identities of migrants’ children
  • Adult life of migrants’ children
  • Parenting in the process of migration
  • The role of language, religion, gender and traditions
  • The role of education system & specificity of international schools
  • Unique resources and competences of migrants’ children
  • Legal and administrative issues of migrants’ children
  • Spirituality as an important resource for stability in the midst of changes.

Focus

Papers and presentations might focus on the children of :

  • Refugees
  • Economic migrants
  • Highly skilled migrants and expatriates
  • Transnational company & government  employees (Third Culture Kids)
  • Return migrants

Dates

  • Please send abstracts (max. 300 words) to: migrantschildren@gmail.com before 1st of March 2013
  • 15th March 2013 – acceptance notification
  • 10th April 2013 – registration & fees
  • 7th - 9th June 2013 – conference
