On 1 February 2017, Belgium and Cameroon signed a Memorandum of Understanding which focuses on migration and return.
The Belgian State Secretary for Asylum Policy and Migration, M. Theo Francken, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cameroon on 1 February 2017.
The State Secretary stated that it was the duty of the two countries to properly manage legal migration between them and to deal with issues that may arise when certain people do not respect existing procedures.
This MoU focuses on different elements, including:
- Fight against irregular migration (e.g. through exchange of information and expertise).
- Visa and stay (e.g. fight against visa fraud)
- Readmission and reintegration (e.g. voluntary return will be encouraged and a certain number of modalities were defined regarding forced return, including regarding biometric data, photos and other technical measures).
