Belgian Council of State annuls inclusion of Albania on list of safe countries of origin
Today, the Council of State has annulled the decree establishing the national list of safe countries of origin, as far as the inclusion of Albania on said list is concerned.
On 23 June 2016, the Belgian Council of State delivered judgement n°235.211 anulling the Royal Decree of 11 May 2015 and the inclusion of Albania on the national list of safe countries of origin.
In its judgement, the Council of States considers that the protection rate of asylum seekers from Albania remains high in 2014, and therefore concludes that the country cannot be included on the list of safe countries of origin.
The list of safe countries of origin, which exists in Belgium since 2012, has to be updated each year. The Royal Decrees of 26 May 2012, 7 May 2013 and 24 April 2014 were also annulled by the Council of State as far as Albania was concerned.
