In a press release published today, Statbel communicated that 3.885 persons obtained the Belgian nationality in December 2023. The main countries of origin of people who acquired Belgian nationality in December are Syria, Morocco, Romania, Afghanistan and Iraq.

When looking into figures on changes of nationality, non-Belgians who became Belgian in 2023 amount to 54.813. This figure amounted to 48.521 in 2022, to 39.275 in 2021 and to 33.950 in 2020. 

Please note that the total figure for 2023 is still provisional at this stage and that final figures will be known in June 2024.
