In addition to the first set of actions worth €253 million decided in December, a second set of actions approved today should provide support to many refugees, displaced persons and host communities in the Horn of Africa.

The package of actions consists of both regional actions ( regional development and protection programmes; legal migration and mobility; capacity building to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development IGAD) and national actions (promoting a culture of tolerance and dialogue in Somalia; creation of economic opportunities in Kenya; implementation of the Special Measure for Sudan). These projects are summarized in the factsheet on the second package of measures approved to tackle the root causes of irregular migration and forced displacement in the Horn of Africa.

The new actions adopted today follow the introduction of 20 new measures worth €280 million for the Sahel region and Lake Chad Basin region decided last week.
