Annual report Trafficking of human beings 2011 (Centre for Equal Opportunities and Opposition to Racism)

One week before the European Anti Trafficking Day (18 October), the Centre for Equal Opportunities and Opposition to Racism presented its fifteenth annual report on trafficking in, and smuggling of human beings.

The report focuses on the money as the driving force for the criminal structures: the debts for the smuggling, deducted salaries, practices of money laundering, the forfeitures and also compensations for victims. The Centre pleads for an increased fight against these criminal financial practices in the framework of trafficking in and smuggling of human beings.

For the Centre, these annual reports act as a tool to assess and give impetus to the Belgian policy in the fight against trafficking in and smuggling of human beings. The Centre thus fulfils its legal remit by taking on the de facto role of “national rapporteur on trafficking in human beings”.

The report is available in French and in Dutch, and will be available in English in a few months.
