The paper reflects the possible implications of the recent events in the Southern Mediterranean on the European migration policy. The Commission assures quick assistance to all persons in need and mentioned especially the Tunisian-Libyan border region. The Commission stresses also the importance to provide shelter to those in need of international protection. However, the paper underlines the importances to prevent irregular migration on a large scale.

According to the Commission, the events in the crisis region have confirmed the need for a effective and common EU policy in the field of migration and asylum.
