375 new reception places will be created in Lodelinsart (Charleroi)

On the proposal of the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, the Council of Ministers agreed today to the conclusion of a rental contract for land in Lodelinsart (Charleroi). Fedasil will make the site available to the Belgian Red Cross to place containers in order to increase the reception capacity for applicants for international protection.

At the end of 2021, the Belgian authorities contacted the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) with the request for support for the reception system under pressure. An operational plan was signed, which provided inter alia for the provision of material support (reception containers) and human resources to support national reception authorities.

In order to install such containers, the Council of Ministers agreed today to the conclusion of a rental contract for land in Lodelinsart (Charleroi). The European Asylum Agency (EUAA) will ensure the supply, installation and connection of containers to create a maximum of 375 reception places.
