As of 15 October 2026, Member States can enter a new type of information alert in the Schengen Information System (SIS). The new alert allows information received from non-EU countries and international organisations on third-country nationals suspected of involvement in terrorism or serious crime to be made available to authorities across the countries using the system.

Europol and the European Labour Authority (ELA) are strengthening their cooperation on labour exploitation, trafficking in human beings, fraud and related serious and organised crime. On 2 September 2026, the two agencies signed a Working Arrangement providing a framework for information exchange and further cooperation in areas of shared interest.

On 11 July, the Belgian Council of Ministers approved a draft bill that broadens the circumstances under which Belgian nationality may be withdrawn. This reform enlarges the list of serious criminal offences that can lead to loss of nationality and mandates judges to systematically consider deprivation in terrorism convictions. The draft bill will now be submitted to the Council of State for its opinion.
