This report assesses the application of the Directive 2005/71/EC on a specific procedure for admitting third-country nationals for more than three months for the purpose of scientific research.

The report is based on a study prepared for the Commission, as well as other sources including ad-hoc queries from the European Migration Network and discussions with Member States.
The overall aim of the Directive 2005/71/EC is to reduce obstacles to the entry and residence in the EU of third-country national researchers and to grant them intra-EU mobility rights.
